This course has been specifically structured for professional actors who are ready to push themselves into the next stage of their careers.
It has always been my belief that immense skill and talent are highly valued currencies in an actor's career. How easy is it to be knocked off centre by the external forces of this industry? Your skill, your talent, your instrument are stabilisers. The stronger your skill, the more stability you have, the greater your currency as an actor.
Prior to the commencement of the course, we will have a fifteen minute conversation over zoom to assess where you’re at in your instrument and career, and what needs to happen next to evolve your story as an actor. Following this conversation, I will assign a carefully chosen scene to each participant.
The relationship between the actor and the character is of crucial importance. You will be assigned the character you need to play for your development as an actor. You will be assigned a character that asks something of you, that requires you to gift something of yourself in order to fulfil the prophecy of the story.
It is assumed that all actors will be familiar with, or have their own version of, the fundamental skills of Stanislavski such as script analysis, playing given circumstances, scene objectives etc.
Across the eight weeks we will delve into the complexity of the scene, mining the textual, physical, psychological and emotional detail to create nuanced, dynamic and surprising work as actors.
There will also be a focus on using Laban and Yat Malmgren’s concepts of Character Analysis to explore a rigorous connection between the inner and outer life of a character, or the interplay between psychology / emotion and the body.
This course has been specifically structured for professional actors who are graduates of conservatoire training courses, or who have considerable experience.
