A self-tape is not the time to park the extraordinary breadth of your talent, your point of view and uniqueness, it’s when you need to hit go on it. You will book work based on the ferociousness, the boldness and the nuance of your skill. Playing safe hasn't worked, don't get stuck there.

The ye olde adage of ‘you have to know the rules in order to break them’. It’s a combination of intellect and intuition, honouring and destroying.
An actor trying to get the scene right is a snooze.
An actor trying to stand out from the crowd is insufferable.
An actor who understands the story and is making bold, dynamic and unexpected choices in service of that story, filtered through their own point of view as a person… Yes please! More of that!
Great actors are not meat puppets. They are masterful storytellers; they have extraordinary powers of dramaturgy; whether that is conscious and a finely tuned skill over many years, or it’s intuitive, perhaps born from life experience - they have it in spades.
Don't be a meat puppet.
Make an offer to the casting director, producers, writer, director. That's actually your job.
